Cricket's Three Formats and Bangladesh's Favourite Tournaments
T20
In this 20-over format, every ball counts. BPL, IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup are the three tournaments most popular with Bangladeshi fans. Quick results mean quick betting decisions.
BPL IPL T20 WCODI
The 50-over ODI format is more about strategy and patience. Many bettors follow Bangladesh Tigers' ODI performances and bet regularly in this format. The ICC ODI World Cup generates the most markets.
ICC WC Asia CupTest
Betting on five-day Test cricket is a different experience. A match can end in a draw — all three results are possible. Test markets include innings scores, top bowler and session-based markets. Odds shift gradually as the match situation evolves.
ICC Test Championship
Understanding how betting differs by format is important
Markets that work well in T20 carry different weight in Test cricket. Match length, pitch conditions and weather all mean your approach to betting should differ for each format. bjd has separate markets organised for each format, so you can easily find exactly what you are looking for.
The key difference between cricket and football betting is that in cricket a third result (draw) is only possible in Tests — in T20 or ODI one team must win. In football a draw market is always available. See bjd Sports Betting page for details on football and other sports.
Popular Betting Markets and Common Examples
Cricket betting at bjd offers multiple markets. Each works differently — some are better placed before the match, others during. Below is a straightforward explanation of the most commonly used markets.
Match Winner
Answer the simple question of which of the two teams will win. If you bet on Team A to win, you win when Team A wins.
T20 ODI TestToss Winner
Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The result is entirely independent — it has no connection to the match result.
Pre-MatchTop Batsman
Bet on which batsman from a given team will score the most runs — a market based on individual performance.
Individual PerformanceTotal Runs Over/Under
Will the score finish above or below a set run line? Example: will Team A score more than 160 runs in their first innings? Over means yes, under means no.
T20 SpecialMulti-Bet (Multiple Selections)
Betting on multiple matches at once multiplies the odds together. However, if any one selection is wrong, the entire bet loses.
High Risk High ReturnRuns Before First Wicket
How many runs will the opening partnership score before the first wicket falls — this market tests your understanding of pitch and bowling conditions at the start of an innings.
Innings MarketMan of the Match
Bet on who will be named the best player of the match. The winner is chosen based on overall performance — batting, bowling or fielding combined.
Special MarketHow to Read and Understand Odds
There are three common ways to display odds — decimal, fractional and American. All three express the same information, just in different forms. The two examples below will make the difference clear.
The same price written in three formats: Decimal 3.00 = Fractional 2/1 = American +200.
A ৳200 bet returns ৳600 if Team A wins (৳400 profit + ৳200 original stake). If Team A loses, the full ৳200 is gone.
The same price written as: Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American -200.
American minus odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100. A ৳200 bet returns ৳300 if Team B wins (৳100 profit).
Decimal odds are the simplest — multiply them by your stake and you get the total return including your original stake. Fractional odds come from British tradition — the fraction shows profit only, excluding the original stake. American odds with a plus sign mean the underdog; with a minus sign, the favourite.
At bjd you can choose whichever format you prefer. Decimal is the most familiar among Bangladeshi bettors because the calculation is straightforward.
For multi-bets, remember that the odds of all selections are multiplied together. If three selections have decimal odds of 1.50, 1.70 and 1.80, the combined odds are 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.80 = 4.59 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳459, but if even one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.
Live In-Play Betting — Odds Shift When Wickets Fall
Betting while a match is in progress is called in-play or live betting. Odds change instantly after every wicket, every six or every maiden over. If Team A loses 3 quick wickets in the powerplay, their odds to win will lengthen (because their chances have dropped) and Team B's odds will shorten.
In in-play betting, decisions must be made quickly because odds change every ball. bjd's live betting interface shows a real-time scorecard, which helps when making decisions.
Remember, it is better not to rush a bet in the heat of a live match. Betting is entertainment, not a source of income — read the responsible gaming guidelines once.
Some Practical Tips for Cricket Betting
- Bet with the format in mind: How you think in T20 will not work for Test cricket. Scoring patterns, pitch behaviour and match pace differ across formats — keep that in mind.
- Focus on one market: Betting on too many markets at once splits your attention. For beginners, starting with the match winner market is the better approach.
- Set a budget first: Decide the maximum amount you will spend before each session. Do not go beyond that limit.
- Be careful with multi-bets: Returns are larger with multiple selections, but one wrong pick ends it all. If you place a multi-bet, keep the stake small.
- Stay patient in live betting: Odds move very fast during a match. After a bad over, assess the situation rather than betting on impulse.
- Treat betting as entertainment: Start betting to enjoy cricket — not in hopes of profit. If you can enjoy a match without betting, betting can make it more fun.
Comparing Cricket and Football Betting
In T20 and ODI cricket there are only two possible results — one team wins. In football there are three — win, loss or draw. This difference directly affects how odds are set.
In football, the direction of a match can shift steadily across 90 minutes. In cricket, a single wicket or a single six can change the course of play entirely. That makes live betting in cricket much more fast-moving.

Betting Exchange — A Simple Guide to Back and Lay
In regular betting you bet against a bookmaker. In a betting exchange you bet against another bettor — the bookmaker takes a commission from the middle.
BACK (support): ৳500 bet on Team A to win — if Team A wins, ৳500 profit (before commission); if they do not win, ৳500 is lost.
LAY (against): Betting that Team A will not win — against a bettor staking ৳500, your liability is ৳500 (৳500 × 1.00); if Team A does not win, ৳500 profit; if they win, you pay ৳500.
Exchange betting is relatively complex — it is better for newcomers to gain experience with regular match winner markets first. You will find details on both types of betting at bjd bet.
